Gabriela and Danny, raised in New Jersey, met during their first year of medical school at Rutgers. Due to COVID and the virtual setting, they didn’t get to know each other well until their third year, when clinical rotations finally brought them into the hospital and into each other’s lives.

They became close friends, spending long hours on surgery rotation, studying, and winding down over a martini with movie nights, and dinner dates in between busy schedules. Their connection grew naturally over the course of that year, and during a month spent studying together for board exams in the Berkshires, it became clear that their friendship had turned into something more.

In their final year of medical school, they started dating, and shortly after graduating, matched into residency at the same hospitals, moved in together, and began building a life side by side — filled with shared goals, family time, and as much travel as their schedules would allow.

Danny proposed on November 28th 2024, surprising Gabriela by bringing both of their families together to celebrate the engagement. It was a thoughtful, beautiful moment and marked the beginning of this next chapter.
